Uganda: Four Children Stabbed Dead at Kampala Kindergarten

Authorities in Uganda apprehended the suspect on-site following a violent attack at a kindergarten in Kampala. The man, who had previously visited the facility twice, was detained by police after fleeing the scene. His exact intent remains unknown, though officials are investigating.

Incident Details

Local police confirmed that four toddlers, aged between two and three, were killed during the assault. The suspect gained entry by impersonating a parent and attacked the children before being overpowered by residents and a security guard from a nearby church.

“We confirm a tragic incident at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program school in Makindye Division, Kampala City, where a male suspect brutally stabbed and killed four juveniles,” stated a police spokeswoman, noting the victims “died on the spot.”

Residents in the upscale Ggaba district initially tried to capture the attacker themselves, but a church security guard intervened. Police and military personnel arrived later, firing warning shots to clear the area before making the arrest.

Background of the Suspect

Preliminary reports suggest the suspect had attempted to enroll his child at the daycare earlier in the week. He returned on Thursday, paid admission for his child, and then proceeded to carry out the attack. The motive for the violence is still under examination.

“We call upon anyone with information about the suspect to contact police and aid in investigations,” said Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba, who visited the scene to calm tensions.

Social media footage captured distraught parents outside the cordoned-off nursery, desperately searching for news of their children. At the time of the attack, 14 children were present, with the bodies of four taken to a mortuary and the remaining ten safely reunited with their families.
