Claressa Shields, the undisputed heavyweight champion, is anticipated at ringside as negotiations progress. Price expressed her eagerness for the bout, suggesting it might occur earlier than expected. “I’m determined to become a multi-weight world champion and take on the biggest names in women’s boxing,” she stated. Her promoter, Ben Shalom of Boxxer, confirmed talks are underway for a middleweight clash, where Price competed as an amateur and Shields once held a pro title.
“We believe the weight difference won’t deter this fight. Lauren wants Claressa Shields—she wants the most prominent name in women’s boxing, and Claressa is that,” said Shalom. “Lauren is the best female boxer on the planet. Only she could rival Claressa in the future.”

While a matchup with Shields remains a priority, Price’s immediate focus is on Saturday’s title defense against Pineiro. The Puerto Rican challenger, 35, boasts an undefeated pro record of 10 wins, all in her homeland. Pineiro’s team insists she’ll deliver a surprise performance, aiming to energize the Cardiff crowd. “I think I’ve faced tougher competition than her before,” Price said, “but this is about delivering a strong showing on Saturday night.”
Pineiro, standing at 5ft 9in, projected confidence during media appearances. She embraced the role of the underdog, stating, “I’m thrilled to hear the boos—they’ll fuel my performance.”
Shalom highlighted the significance of a high-profile rivalry, drawing parallels to iconic sports duels. “Every major sport needs a defining rivalry—like Federer vs. Nadal or Fury vs. Usyk,” he noted. “Women’s boxing deserves this. Claressa has never faced a female opponent of her caliber, and that could be Lauren Price.”
Though a showdown with Shields is appealing, Price’s path could also involve a unification bout with Mikaela Mayer. However, Mayer claimed the matchup was delayed when Price’s team withdrew. “She fumbled the opportunity, but I’m still ready to fight,” Mayer said, emphasizing her readiness for the challenge.
