Thunder inflict one of Lakers’ heaviest defeats
The Oklahoma City Thunder delivered a crushing 139-96 victory to the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most lopsided losses in the team’s history. This defeat was compounded by the exit of star player Luka Doncic due to a left hamstring injury, leaving the Lakers to grapple with their second consecutive loss in five games.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning Most Valuable Player, played a pivotal role in the win, scoring 28 points while adding seven rebounds and seven assists. His performance helped the Thunder extend their league-leading record to 61-16, a testament to their dominance this season. Meanwhile, the Lakers allowed 139 points, the highest total they’ve conceded this year, and suffered their worst margin of defeat since a 44-point loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in November 2023.
Doncic, who had previously scored 40 or more points in three consecutive games and five of his last seven, will undergo an MRI scan on Friday, according to Lakers coach JJ Redick. The Slovenian star appeared visibly upset when he left the game in the third quarter, and his injury leaves the team uncertain about their playoff prospects.
Austin Reaves led the Lakers with 15 points despite battling back pain, while LeBron James contributed 13 points in 26 minutes. The team had entered the game with a 13-1 record in their last 14 contests, aiming to secure a third seed in the Western Conference ahead of the April 18 playoffs. However, the Thunder’s relentless offensive output and Doncic’s absence proved too much to overcome.
