Cardoso takes record nine wickets in T20 international

At just 21 years old, Brazil’s Laura Cardoso has shattered records in T20 cricket, claiming nine wickets in a single match against Lesotho. Her performance, which saw the opposition team bowled out for 13 in just 6.2 overs, surpassed the previous benchmark set by Bhutan’s Sonam Yeshey and Indonesia’s Rohmalia Rohmalia.

Cardoso’s remarkable haul of 9-4 came in just three overs, showcasing a level of precision and aggression rarely seen. She bowled Lesotho’s batters to the ground with five consecutive dismissals, spanning the final three balls of the second over and the first two deliveries of the fourth. The seamer then secured two more wickets in the third over, finishing with a second maiden, before removing another pair in the fifth.

“This is just the beginning,” said Roberta Moretti, president of Cricket Brasil. “Laura’s talent and dedication make her a future star in England and Australia. Watching her rise from grassroots programs to this level is inspiring.” She added, “Her work ethic and passion for the game are undeniable. Brazil is lucky to have her.”

Lesotho’s only runs in the innings came from a single dismissal by Marianne Artur, who stumped Lindiwe Polaki to deny Cardoso a perfect 10-wicket haul. Brazil’s dominance in the six-team Kalahari Women’s T20 tournament continues, remaining undefeated after five matches, all held in Gaborone, Botswana’s capital.
