Robertson to leave Liverpool at the end of the season
Liverpool has confirmed that Andy Robertson will depart the club upon the conclusion of the current campaign. The 32-year-old left-back, who joined the Reds from Hull City in 2017 for £8 million, has secured two Premier League titles and the Champions League trophy during his tenure in Merseyside.
With his contract reaching its expiration in the summer, Robertson shared his decision in a video message. “I think now’s the time for me to move on,” he stated. The Scotland captain also reflected on his time at the club, adding: “The nine years I’ll look back on with a big smile on my face.”
Transfer interest and contractual hurdles
Tottenham Hotspur had previously shown interest in Robertson during the January transfer window. A potential deal was reached in principle, but Liverpool’s move was stalled due to their inability to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma.
Competition for starting spots
Robertson’s playing time has been restricted this season following the signing of Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez. The £40 million acquisition from Bournemouth in 2023 has limited Robertson’s opportunities in the first team.
