I feel complete support from owners and fans – Slot
Despite a recent streak of underwhelming results, Liverpool manager Arne Slot maintains that he enjoys “complete support” from both the club’s leadership and supporters. Slot, who took over as head coach in June 2024 after succeeding Jurgen Klopp, led the team to a Premier League title in his debut season. However, the club now faces challenges in maintaining its European ambitions, with just seven points separating it from fifth place and 13th-placed Bournemouth.
Slot’s side has struggled in their last three league games, securing only a single point. A 2-1 loss to Brighton marked the latest setback, while a 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals and a 2-0 exit in the Champions League quarter-final against Paris St-Germain have intensified doubts about his future. French journalist Julien Laurens and former defender Stephen Warnock have expressed concerns, with Warnock noting that “confidence is at an all-time low” and Laurens questioning Slot’s ability to stay in charge next season.
Slot’s resolve amid challenges
“I’ve found myself repeating the same points, yet I still sense substantial backing. Not only from the owners but also from Richard and Michael. Their support is clear, and even in tough moments, the fans remain steadfast,” Slot explained.
Slot highlighted the fans’ unwavering loyalty, citing instances like the post-match chants of “we love Liverpool” after losses. “They were outplayed for 90 minutes but kept clapping and singing. That shows they believe in us,” he added.
Looking ahead, Slot sees the recent setbacks as motivation. “This season is a defining phase. Facing European champions exposed our shortcomings, but we have time to prove we can rise to the occasion,” he said. The next test comes against Fulham at Anfield on Saturday.
Andy Robertson’s legacy
Slot also acknowledged the departure of defender Andy Robertson, who announced his exit after 9 years at the club. Robertson, 32, has made 373 appearances and won nine trophies, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League. However, limited playing time this season, with just 19 league games and six starts, contributed to his decision.
“He’s had incredible seasons here, both as a player and a teammate. His intensity and personality will be missed. Even when he wasn’t playing as much as usual, his dedication to the club was evident,” Slot reflected.
Robertson’s journey at Liverpool began with a move from Hull City in 2017. Slot praised his “funny” nature and relentless effort, recalling a memorable press run from left-back to right wing years ago. “That moment was a lesson in commitment. I showed it to my players to emphasize his work ethic,” he said.
