Child killed in suspected dog attack was baby girl

A three-month-old girl lost her life in what authorities suspect was a dog attack in Redcar. Police confirmed the incident occurred shortly after 13:30 BST on Thursday at an address on Hardale Grove, in Dormanstown. Officers arrived in response to reports indicating a child was in danger.

Cleveland Police stated that they neutralized two dogs—one on the street and another at the property—during the event. A 45-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of overseeing a dog that was dangerously out of control, leading to fatal injuries.

The suspect, a 45-year-old man, has been released on conditional bail. Police believe the girl’s death was caused by a dog bite. Additionally, a 31-year-old woman sustained an arm injury and was hospitalized for treatment.

Following the incident, both dogs were examined by a specialist officer. The assessment concluded they were not of a banned breed.
