Leicestershire Police confirmed the tragic incident involving a blue car that is thought to have departed a road bridge and collided with a minibus on the M1 motorway. The accident occurred around 13:35 BST on Friday, with the southbound carriageway being the site of the crash. The vehicle in question was traveling along Gilmorton Lane toward Lutterworth when it reportedly veered off the bridge onto the motorway below.

Victims and Injuries

Two teenagers who were in the blue car were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Meanwhile, the minibus driver and three passengers sustained injuries that are not life-threatening. The van driver, however, was released from the hospital after being treated, while three female passengers remain under medical care.

“Forensic investigations have been completed at the crash site, and all motorway lanes are now open,” stated a police spokesperson. They also encouraged anyone who saw the incident or has dashcam footage to share it with authorities.

The crash has prompted calls for witnesses to come forward, as the police seek additional information to understand the circumstances leading to the accident.
