Partner of crime boss Steven Lyons arrested in Dubai
Amanda Lyons, the spouse of Steven Lyons, was detained in Dubai shortly after her husband was apprehended in Bali. Her arrest is believed to have been triggered by an Interpol red alert linked to alleged crimes in Spain. Steven Lyons, 45, was taken into custody at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on Saturday, following his arrival from Singapore.
“We are aware of the arrest of a Scottish woman in Dubai and we are working closely with European partners,” said a Police Scotland spokesperson.
A joint Scottish-Spanish operation targeted properties in Bellshill, Glasgow, Gartcosh, Whitburn, Caldercruix, Cumbernauld, Coatbridge, Barcelona, and the Malaga area. During this effort, eight arrests were made in Scotland and five in Spain. The arrest request for Steven Lyons was reportedly initiated by Spain’s Guardia Civil.
Gangland Feud
Steven Lyons leads the Lyons clan, originally based in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire. The group has been embroiled in a prolonged conflict with the rival Daniel gang, rooted in Glasgow, for over two decades. This feud has seen violent clashes, including a 2006 shooting at a Lambhill garage that killed his cousin, Michael Lyons, while Steven survived the attack.
Earlier this month, news emerged that Steven Lyons had been arrested in Bahrain—five months after his release from Dubai. However, his location remained unclear until he appeared at Bali’s airport. The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office stated: “Based on intelligence data, SL is strongly suspected of being the leader of an international criminal organisation. He is suspected of being the mastermind behind the operation of several fictitious companies and of being involved in money laundering.”
Recent Developments
Steven Lyons is currently in detention at the Bali airport. In May, his brother Eddie Lyons Jnr and Ross Monaghan were shot dead in a Fuengirola beachfront bar. The victims had been watching the Champions League final before being ambushed by a lone gunman. Michael Riley, 44, from Liverpool, faces murder charges in Spain. He initially resisted extradition but later agreed to be transferred to Spain for trial.
Following the double shooting, a Spanish National Police detective claimed Riley was part of the Daniel gang. However, Police Scotland insists the killings were unrelated to the recent gang war in central Scotland, which began last year. The feud has led to assaults, shootings, and firebombings, with over 60 arrests made in the operation named Portaledge. Earlier this year, properties in Edinburgh and surrounding areas were set ablaze before the violence expanded to the west in April.
