Man who threw girlfriend from tower block jailed
Man Jailed for Throwing Girlfriend from Tower Block
Jordan Herring, a 22-year-old from Solihull, has received a five-year prison sentence after being convicted of wounding his girlfriend. The incident occurred in November 2022 when the 18-year-old victim, Bobbie Goodman, fell from the fourth floor of a flat at Merton House in Chelmsley Wood. The court heard that Herring, who lived with his mother, had previously been found guilty of coercive and controlling behavior toward the same woman.
Emergency Call and Injuries
Police stated that Goodman was airlifted to hospital with severe injuries, including a collapsed lung and fractures to her pelvis, spine, and ribs. Her mother, Kerrie-Anne Grogan, made a distressed 999 call hours after the fall, expressing fear that Herring might harm her. “I couldn’t call the ambulance… I should’ve done it ages ago but he’s my son,” she told emergency services. “I’m scared he’s gonna get a knife and kill her.”
“It was very dehumanising,” Goodman shared with the BBC. “I couldn’t move, couldn’t walk, couldn’t wash myself. I really thought I might never walk again.” She added, “I have a lot of hatred for this man. He’s ruined my life in so many ways. He’s made me not want to trust another man ever again. But I hope someday, I will.”
Relationship Context and Trial
Herring’s mother’s flat was the location of the fall, which happened during an argument between the couple. Police noted that the relationship was described as “toxic” by Herring, who claimed the incident stemmed from a dispute about infidelity. The conviction for wounding and coercive behavior followed a trial at Birmingham Crown Court, where the jury was informed the emergency services were called more than an hour after the attack.
Authorities praised Goodman for her courage in recounting the abuse she endured, emphasizing ongoing support for her recovery. The case highlights the physical and emotional impact of domestic violence, with Herring’s sentence marking the culmination of his actions.
