Woman fined £40 for £4k sale of fake Oasis tickets

A 33-year-old woman from Betley, Staffordshire, has been sentenced to a £40 fine and a 12-month community order after admitting guilt for scamming 11 individuals out of £4,000 through counterfeit Oasis concert tickets. The fraud took place in May, with Slater selling tickets and VIP access for Wembley shows via WhatsApp.

During the December hearing at North Staffordshire Justice Centre, Slater confessed to 11 counts of fraud by false representation. Prosecutors revealed that one of her victims, a man who purchased 15 tickets, created WhatsApp groups to recruit friends, believing he had secured genuine entries. Slater charged £130 per ticket, and several victims booked non-refundable hotels for the event dates.

“She told police she had ‘started with good intent then it escalated out of her control,’” said Kyle Padley, the prosecutor. “No evidence has been found of any coercion, and we believe she acted purely out of greed, using her connections to exploit personal gain.”

Simon Leech, defending Slater, emphasized that she did not spend the money extravagantly, instead using it to settle household bills, including council tax. Some victims have already received refunds, according to the court. Det Con David Stubbs added that Slater’s ties to wealthy and famous individuals gave her the credibility to sell fake tickets.

“She convinced her victims she had ‘credible access’ to the tickets, but the scam left them deeply upset,” Stubbs explained. “It caused significant anger and hurt, especially since she used some victims to attract others.”
