Sophie Turner injury halts filming on Tomb Raider TV show
Prime Video has paused production of its upcoming Tomb Raider series following an injury sustained by lead actress Sophie Turner, according to the show’s producers. Turner, known for her role as Sansa Stark in *Game of Thrones*, takes on the iconic character Lara Croft in the adaptation of the 1996 video game franchise.
“As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming as soon as possible,” said a Prime Video spokesperson, who noted Turner had recently suffered a “minor injury” but did not specify whether it occurred on or off-set.
Turner has been seen filming action sequences in various global locations since her casting as Lara Croft last year. The 30-year-old revealed earlier this year that she developed a chronic back condition during an intense training regimen leading up to the project. She also mentioned the challenge of stepping into a role previously portrayed by Oscar-winning actors Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
The series features a stellar cast including Sigourney Weaver, known for her role in *Alien*, and Jason Isaacs, star of *The White Lotus*. Celia Imrie, who appeared in *Celebrity Traitors* and *Bridget Jones’s Diary*, also joins the ensemble. Scripted by *Fleabag* writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the show aims to reimagine the video game series with a modern twist.
A legacy of adventure
Lara Croft first captured global attention in the 1990s, becoming a symbol of empowerment for female gamers. The character was later redefined in 2013 with a more grounded portrayal, emphasizing her personality and journey. Turner’s casting marks a new chapter in the franchise’s ongoing evolution.
