Leo Woodall, Jamie Dornan, and Kate Winslet Join New Cast for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum

Warner Bros has unveiled the long-anticipated cast for *The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum*, with notable newcomers including Leo Woodall, who previously starred in *One Day*, Jamie Dornan, known for his role in *Fifty Shades of Grey*, and Kate Winslet, a celebrated actress from *Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy*. The announcement was made during CinemaCon, a key event where studios and cinema leaders preview upcoming projects. The film is set for release in 2027.

New Faces in Middle-earth

Leo Woodall, 29, will portray Halvard in the film, marking his first appearance in the franchise. He has previously gained attention for his work on *The White Lotus* and *One Day*. Jamie Dornan will take on the role of Strider, also known as Aragorn, stepping into the iconic part previously played by Viggo Mortensen. Dornan, a BAFTA and Golden Globes nominee, rose to fame as Christian Grey in the *Fifty Shades of Grey* series. Kate Winslet will play Marigol, adding her talents to the Middle-earth saga.

Returning Legends

Iconic actors from the original trilogy are set to return, including Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, and Andy Serkis, who will reprise his role as Gollum/Sméagol. Additionally, Lee Pace, who appeared in *The Hobbit*, will play Thranduil, the Elvenking. The film is directed by Andy Serkis, known for his groundbreaking work as Gollum in the earlier trilogy.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will be released in cinemas on 17 December 2027.

The franchise, which has captivated global audiences for decades, generated over £2.5bn ($3bn) at the box office. Its enduring appeal has solidified Tolkien’s mythological world as a beloved cultural phenomenon. This latest installment follows Aragorn’s early quest to locate Gollum and protect the Ring from Sauron’s grasp, bridging the narrative between *The Hobbit* trilogy and the main *Lord of the Rings* series.
