Madonna announces sequel to Confessions On A Dancefloor album
Madonna has confirmed that her upcoming album will follow up her 2005 release, *Confessions On A Dancefloor*, known for its club-centric sound and hits such as *Sorry* and the Abba-sampling *Hung Up*. The announcement came after weeks of hints, including a dramatic Instagram update where she replaced her bio with a lyric from *Hung Up*: “Time goes by so slowly.”
Release date and first glimpse
On Wednesday, the pop icon officially revealed *Confessions II*, set for a July 3rd launch. To tease the project, she shared a 60-second video featuring the album’s debut track, *I Feel So Free*. The clip opens with a pulsating synth bassline and subtly incorporates a line from her 1980s anthem *Into The Groove*: “Out here on the dance floor, I feel so free.”
Legacy of the original
*Confessions On A Dancefloor* remains a standout in Madonna’s discography, often ranked among her finest works alongside *Like A Prayer* and *Ray Of Light*. The sequel marks her first full-length project since 2019’s *Madame X*, making it her 15th studio album. She has returned to working with British producer Stuart Price, who co-created the first album in his London home. During that time, Madonna etched her name into the loft’s ceiling, a detail that has since become part of the project’s lore.
“People think that dance music is superficial, but they’ve got it all wrong,” Madonna said in a press release. “The dance floor is not just a place, it’s a threshold: A ritualistic space where movement replaces language.”
Madonna framed the album’s opening track, *One Step Away*, as a “manifesto” for her new work. “We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies,” she added. “These are things that we’ve been doing for thousands of years—they really are spiritual practices. After all, the dance floor is a ritualistic space. It’s a place where you connect with your wounds, with your fragility.”
Behind the scenes and fan speculation
Months of anticipation have been fueled by rumors and clues. In March, the *Sun* reported that Madonna had filmed her most X-rated music video yet at a secret UK location. Fans are also buzzing about her potential collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter during the Coachella Festival this Friday. Meanwhile, posters for *Confessions II* have started appearing globally, signaling the album’s imminent arrival.
Madonna’s creative process has included personal moments, such as posting photos of her children participating in the recordings. She also shared a glimpse of her return to Stuart Price’s west London studio, referencing their bond with a caption: “Back in the Stu with Stuart Price.”
Connecting music and film
As she prepares for the album’s release, Madonna is also set to appear in the second series of *The Studio*, an Emmy-winning TV show that satirizes the film industry. She filmed her role in Venice, the same location where she shot her *Like A Virgin* music video, alongside actress Julia Garner. Though a biopic of Madonna was scrapped, the show will nod to the attempts to bring her story to the big screen, as noted by *Variety* magazine.
