Peaty looks to LA Games after winning 50m British title
Adam Peaty claimed victory in the 50m breaststroke at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships in London, securing a second-place finish in the 100m event earlier this week. The 31-year-old, a three-time Olympic champion, pulled ahead of competitors in the final 25 meters to cross the line in 26.64 seconds, further cementing his status as a dominant force in the event. Teenager Filip Nowacki came in second with a time of 27.10 seconds, while Archie Goodburn and Max Morgan shared the third spot at 27.22 seconds.
Path to Los Angeles 2028
Peaty and Nowacki, the 18-year-old, have earned spots on the British team for the European Aquatics Championships in Paris later this year. “I’ve put everything into this preparation, and the most exciting part is what’s ahead,” Peaty remarked. “The next few months will be key as the World Championships will be tougher. My ultimate aim is to stand on that Olympic podium in two years’ time.”
“I’ve given everything on this preparation and the most exciting thing is the future now,” said Peaty. “The next few months, we’ll hopefully get this down because I know the World Championships is much more competitive. I want to be on top of that [Olympic] podium in two years’ time.”
The World Aquatics Championships will be held in China in December, but Peaty’s focus remains firmly on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. His interest in the LA Games was confirmed a year ago, following the announcement that the 50m breaststroke would be included in the competition. This move provides him with another chance to add to his collection of individual golds, having already triumphed in the 100m event at the 2016 and 2021 Olympics.
Other Standouts at the Championships
Duncan Scott, a double Olympic champion, narrowly edged out Edward Mildred in the 200m butterfly. Lauren Cox, who won the 100m backstroke at the 2025 European Championships, repeated her success in London, finishing ahead of Blythe Kinsman. Three-time Paralympic gold medallist Alice Tai took silver in the women’s MC 100m backstroke, falling short of Bethany Firth.
Additional winners included 17-year-old Amelie Blocksidge in the 1500m freestyle, Max Litchfield in the 400m medley, and Amalie Smith, 16, in the 400m medley. The Aquatics GB event in London features 36 medal categories across its competition schedule this week.
