McGlynn Worthy of Celtic Consideration – Lennon
Saturday’s Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park sees Neil Lennon face John McGlynn for the first time as opposing managers, with Dunfermline Athletic challenging Falkirk for a spot in the final. The match, scheduled for 12:30 BST, will be broadcast live on BBC One Scotland, BBC Sport, and iPlayer, while radio coverage will be available via BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Sounds. Text updates will also be shared on the BBC Sport website.
Lennon Praises McGlynn’s Career
Neil Lennon, who previously managed Celtic twice, has highlighted John McGlynn as a strong candidate for the next managerial role at the club. Despite their rivalry on Saturday, Lennon admires McGlynn’s contributions across his coaching career. “He’s got longevity,” Lennon remarked, adding that McGlynn “should be in the conversation” for the position. The 64-year-old Falkirk boss has guided his team to a top-six finish in the Scottish Premiership after securing consecutive promotions to the top flight.
“I think he should be in the conversation for the next Celtic manager as well,” Lennon stated. “Whether that would appeal to John I don’t know, and I don’t want to throw him under the bus. I apologise to the Falkirk people as well, but that’s how I rate John.”
McGlynn, who previously coached Hearts, Raith Rovers, and Livingston, served as a first-team scout and opposition analyst at Celtic from January 2015 to September 2018. Lennon, 54, has won the Scottish Cup four times as a player and once as a manager, and now aims for a third Premiership victory in the current competition. Dunfermline have already defeated Hibernian and Aberdeen, while Celtic will face St Mirren in the other semi-final.
Lennon expressed frustration over the “unfair” fixture scheduling for Dunfermline, though he remains focused on Saturday’s clash. The Falkirk manager, meanwhile, is eyeing the cup final as his ultimate goal, a testament to his determination and track record in Scottish football.
