Five Euro 2028 tickets ‘cost same as World Cup parking space’
Euro 2028 Ticket Prices ‘Match World Cup Parking Costs’
The 2028 European Championship will be hosted across nine stadiums in the UK and Republic of Ireland, with UEFA announcing a plan to stabilize ticket prices. This means fans could purchase five Euro 2028 tickets for the cost of a single parking space at a World Cup stadium in the U.S. this summer.
Ticket Pricing Strategy
UEFA has committed to keeping prices consistent for Euro 2028, ensuring the two most affordable “Fans First” categories will account for 40% of tickets. In contrast, Euro 2024 in Germany saw the cheapest group stage tickets priced at €30 (£26) and €60 (£52), with UEFA aiming to maintain these at under £30 and £60 for 2028. Four pricing tiers will be available, supplemented by a limited VIP+ category to support affordable options.
Comparison with World Cup
Higher-tier group stage tickets at Euro 2024 ranged from €150 (£130) to €200 (£174), though specifics for these levels remain undisclosed. This contrasts with FIFA’s pricing model for the 2026 World Cup, which sparked backlash. The cheapest group games for England initially cost $220 (£167), while the most expensive reached $700 (£523). Euro 2028 fans might secure three group matches for the price of a single World Cup category three ticket.
In response to criticism, FIFA introduced a limited number of $60 (£45) tickets for all 104 matches. However, this is just a fraction of the overall pricing issues, with The Athletic revealing that average parking costs at U.S. World Cup games have reached $175 (£133). At MetLife Stadium, group stage parking fees were as high as $225 (£171).
UEFA’s approach avoids dynamic pricing, unlike FIFA’s system that led to inflated costs. The final batch of World Cup tickets will be released on Wednesday, while Euro 2028 will not use dynamic pricing, with UEFA guaranteeing about half the tickets will be reasonably priced. Additionally, disabled spectators will benefit from Euro 2028’s policy, as they can access the most affordable tiers and request a complimentary companion pass—unlike the World Cup, where full price was charged without such an option.
UEFA will ensure resale prices align with face value, whereas World Cup tickets are sold at higher secondary market rates, with FIFA taking a 30% commission—15% from both buyer and seller. A comprehensive list of ticket prices and sale dates for Euro 2028 will be published in autumn 2027, with the first release following the draw announcement in December.
