Counter-terror police investigate another arson attack
Following a fire at a business in Hendon, northwest London, counter-terrorism officers have launched an inquiry into the incident. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a man was observed on Friday evening near a cluster of shops, carrying a plastic bag that contained three fluid-filled bottles. After placing the bag beside the structure, he ignited its contents before departing the scene. While the flames caused limited damage to the storefront, no injuries were reported, and emergency services were dispatched to the location.
Other Arson Incidents Under Review
In addition to the Hendon attack, authorities are examining attempted arson incidents targeting a Persian language media outlet and a synagogue in Finchley. A separate case involves ambulances from a Jewish charity that were set on fire in Golders Green. Despite these events, officials have stated the Hendon incident is not classified as a terrorist act and has not been directly connected to other occurrences in the region.
“At this stage, last night’s fire is not being associated with other incidents in northwest London or the recent arson in Golders Green,” explained Commander Helen Flanagan. “However, counter-terrorism teams are leading the investigation due to the shared characteristics of the attacks. We will remain steadfast in our efforts to identify individuals responsible for such acts of hostility against London’s communities.”
Det Ch Supt Luke Williams emphasized the heightened concerns of local residents, noting that police have bolstered their presence in the area. This includes deploying armed patrols and training officers to detect unusual activity. “Our focus is on ensuring the safety of the community and addressing any threats promptly,” he added.
