Items found near Israeli embassy are non-hazardous, police say

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that items located near the Israeli embassy in London pose no threat. During a routine check, officers discovered potential hazards but determined they were not dangerous. Counter-terrorism units are examining a viral video from Friday that suggested the embassy might be targeted with drones equipped to deliver “dangerous substances.”

The Israeli embassy stated no attack occurred, and all staff remained unharmed. As a precaution, Kensington Gardens was closed for the day, though the area reopened on Saturday. Police deployed specialists to evaluate the items, which included two jars containing a dry powder, and concluded they posed no risk.

The video, attributed to an Iran-associated Islamist group named Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia, depicted the embassy as a target. It showed individuals in protective gear operating drones over the building. This group has previously shared footage of other London incidents, such as fires at Jewish ambulances in Golders Green, an attack on a synagogue in Finchley, and a threat against a Persian media outlet in Park Royal.

“We acknowledge that the incident and police actions may have raised alarm, but we appreciate the public’s support while we carried out our duties,” said Cdr Helen Flanagan of Counter Terrorism Policing London.

Specialist teams, including those trained in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats, were seen near the park’s bandstand. Police divers were also observed at the Round Pond. Fire investigation dogs and a hazardous area response unit from the London Ambulance Service were present during the assessment.

Kensington Palace, which once served as the primary residence of the Prince and Princess of Wales, is situated at the western part of Kensington Gardens. The closure of the park was a precautionary measure following the initial discovery of the items.
