Bodies of 50 Infants Dumped at Trinidad Graveyard
Authorities report that the bodies of 50 infants and six adults were discovered in a graveyard located in Trinidad and Tobago. The remains were found in the town of Cumuto, roughly 40 kilometers from the capital, Port of Spain, on the island of Trinidad—one of the two islands that compose the Caribbean nation.
Initial findings suggest the incident could be classified as an unlawful disposal of unclaimed corpses, according to the police service. The connection to gang-related violence remains uncertain, as the country has one of the highest murder rates in the region.
“Any individual or institution found to have violated that duty will be held fully accountable,” said police commissioner Allister Guevarro, describing the discovery as “deeply troubling.”
The state of emergency, granting police expanded search and arrest authority, has been extended since its initial implementation on March 2. Concurrently, the US State Department has released multiple travel alerts, citing ongoing criminal activity and an elevated terrorism risk.
Although violent crime in Trinidad and Tobago has dropped significantly since 2024 due to security initiatives from prior emergency periods, crime persists as a challenge across the country, the advisory noted.
