Fils continues fine form to win Barcelona title
Arthur Fils secured his first ATP title since October 2024, when he triumphed in Tokyo. The Frenchman’s recent success continued as he claimed the Barcelona clay-court championship, overcoming Russian Andrey Rublev in the final with a score of 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).
After a prolonged injury hiatus that affected his participation in the latter half of the 2025 season, the 21-year-old French player has made a strong comeback. Returning to the tour in February, Fils faced challenges, including a loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the Qatar Open final, but progressed to the quarter-finals at Indian Wells and the semifinals in Miami.
“I want to say a big thank you to my team. It’s been eight tough months struggling with injury but we’re back on the court and we won the trophy, so I’m pretty happy about that,” Fils said at the trophy presentation.
Andrey Rublev praised Fils’ performance, calling it “ridiculous.” The Russian player acknowledged that Fils has demonstrated himself as one of the top talents on the ATP Tour.
Meanwhile, Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool claimed the men’s doubles title, defeating France’s Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Italy’s Andrea Vavassori 6-3, 6-4. This marks their first title of the year, following their Wimbledon victory last summer.
“We had not won a title this year but had been in a couple of finals. It is always important to get back to winning ways and get comfortable in those moments again. I am happy with the week,” Cash said.
