Rosenior feels ‘100%’ support from Chelsea owners
Rosenior Expresses Complete Confidence in Chelsea Ownership’s Backing
Chelsea’s new head coach, Liam Rosenior, has asserted that he enjoys “100%” support from the club’s ownership, even after a streak of four consecutive league losses without a single goal. The 41-year-old took over following Enzo Maresca’s departure on New Year’s Day, but a recent home defeat to Manchester United has left the Blues seven points behind fifth-place Liverpool. This has cast serious uncertainty over their prospects of securing Champions League qualification, which was initially seen as a baseline target for the season.
“100%. They’ve been supportive of me in our daily conversations, and the sporting directors have been magnificent in their backing,” Rosenior said. “We’re relying on them. We know we need to win games in the now.”
Influential co-owner Behdad Eghbali emphasized the club’s faith in Rosenior, stating that the management hierarchy remains committed to his vision. “Of course, it’s a results business, but we believe he can succeed long term,” Eghbali added. The owner also mentioned Chelsea’s intention to bring in more seasoned players during the summer transfer window, while adjusting their strategy if necessary. This approach comes after the club fielded the youngest squad in the Premier League.
“He wants consistent trophies and consistent success for this club. That’s what we’ve spoken about—immediately, in the summer, and how we build,” Rosenior explained. “We’re all very clear on what we need to do to get this club back to where it should be.”
Recent tensions were highlighted by a viral moment after Saturday’s match, where defender Wesley Fofana appeared to dismiss first-team coach Justin Walker’s attempts to communicate. Rosenior clarified that Fofana had since apologized, noting the player’s disappointment over the loss. “Wes apologized for his reaction, but these are young players who will make mistakes,” he said, adding that the incident doesn’t impact his selection for Tuesday’s game against Brighton.
On Tuesday, Chelsea will be missing Estevao Willian, who suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday’s defeat. Striker Joao Pedro is also uncertain, pending a late fitness assessment. Defender Levi Colwill, sidelined by a long-term knee injury, returned in a closed-door match on Friday but is expected to play additional minutes for the Under-21 team on Saturday.
