Real Madrid’s Tchouameni on Man Utd radar

Manchester United are closely examining international midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, currently with Real Madrid, as a potential summer addition. The 26-year-old has made 191 appearances and scored seven goals for the Spanish giants since joining in 2022. While Real are reportedly eager to extend his contract until 2028, the club may consider a significant transfer if they seek changes amid a lackluster campaign that has left them without a trophy.

Following their focus on forwards and goalkeepers last season, United are now prioritizing midfield upgrades. Targets like Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest, Carlos Baleba from Brighton, and Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace have been frequently discussed. However, Wharton’s role remains uncertain, as his playing style has drawn comparisons to Kobbie Mainoo, whose contract extension is nearing finalization.

Tchouameni’s move to Real marked a turning point in his career. He opted for the Madrid outfit over United in 2022, where he has since established himself as a standout performer. His consistency has been key to Real’s recent midfield strength, though United’s interest in him suggests they still view him as a valuable asset. The club’s financial flexibility, aided by the departures of high earners Casemiro and Jadon Sancho, could make a bid for Tchouameni feasible.

United’s pursuit of Champions League qualification is also in play. A victory over Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday would bring them closer to securing a return to Europe’s elite competition after a two-year absence. Meanwhile, Barcelona’s potential interest in Marcus Rashford adds a layer of complexity, as the 30m euros (£26.1m) option to sign him remains unresolved before the 15 June deadline.
