Wing David to make England debut against Wales
Millie David, the 20-year-old wing from the Bristol Bears, is set to earn her first senior international appearance as England takes a bold approach to their lineup for the Women’s Six Nations clash against Wales on Saturday. This marks another shift in the team’s composition following the retirement of World Cup-winning player Abby Dow, as England continues to refine their back-three strategy.
David’s inclusion comes after a standout season in the PWR, where she finished tied for the top in try-scoring among English top-tier players. Despite her club’s mixed results, her performances have not gone unnoticed, earning her a spot in the starting XV. The player, who is also eligible for Australia through her father, will now represent England in a high-stakes encounter.
In the wing position, Claudia Moloney-MacDonald will partner David. Ellie Kildunne, who previously scored two tries from the wing during the Scotland match, has reverted to her traditional full-back role. This adjustment reflects the team’s effort to stabilize key positions amid ongoing changes.
Meanwhile, several players face challenges due to injuries or personal circumstances. Lilli Ives Campion, a second row, is sidelined after a knee injury, while Zoe Stratford, Abbie Ward, and Rosie Galligan are all expecting children. Morwenna Talling, the lock, has also been ruled out due to a leg injury sustained in the Ireland game.
Abi Burton and Delaney Burns will share the back row responsibilities, with Burns set to regain her place after her last international appearance in 2023. Holly Aitchison returns to the fly-half role, replacing Zoe Harrison. MacKenzie Carson and Sarah Bern are promoted from the bench to the starting line-up, alongside 113-cap flanker Marlie Packer.
“Until we have that perfect game, no-one will be happy.” – Lewis, the Wales captain, as the team prepares without Cox and Williams.
England’s depth remains a strong asset, even with the inclusion of new players and several absences. Wales, who have struggled in recent Six Nations tournaments, will be tested against a squad brimming with experience and fresh talent.
