Trump says he speaks ‘for the UK more than Prince Harry’
Trump Claims He Represents the UK More Than Prince Harry
US President Donald Trump reiterated his claim that he embodies the interests of the United Kingdom more than Prince Harry, following the Duke of Sussex’s recent remarks on American leadership during the Ukraine conflict. During a surprise visit to Kyiv, Harry emphasized the importance of the United States fulfilling its treaty commitments, stating, “It’s a moment for America to demonstrate it can uphold its international obligations—not out of charity, but as part of its lasting role in global security.”
“I think I am speaking for the UK more than Prince Harry,” Trump remarked, adding, “How’s he doing? How’s his wife? Please give her my regards.”
Harry’s unannounced trip to Ukraine came shortly after he departed Australia, where he and his spouse, Meghan, had spent time in a non-royal capacity. The Duke highlighted the US’s pivotal role in ensuring Ukraine’s territorial integrity, noting that “when Ukraine relinquished nuclear weapons, America was integral to guaranteeing its sovereignty and borders would remain protected.”
During the state visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Trump was asked if he would host Harry for dinner. While not giving a direct answer, the president said, “He’s a friend of mine. We’re really looking forward to it. We’ve spoken and we’re going to have a great time.”
Trump also outlined his views on UK policies, asserting that “they made a big mistake on energy. You should open up the North Sea in Aberdeen. You should open it up.” He further criticized the country’s approach to immigration, calling it “a major error.”
The King and Queen’s four-day visit to the US begins on Monday, with Trump expecting them at the White House. The trip has already sparked discussion, as the president previously told the BBC it could “absolutely” restore strained UK relations, particularly after tensions arose from the Iran war. The BBC has sought comments from the palace and the Foreign Office.
