‘Wait and see’ – has Salah played last Liverpool game?

During Liverpool’s victory over Crystal Palace, Mohamed Salah’s departure from the pitch raised questions about whether it marked his final appearance for the club. Manager Arne Slot suggested the situation remains uncertain, stating that the team must “wait and see” before confirming the forward’s status.

Salah, 33, was replaced in the 59th minute after sustaining a left hamstring injury. Despite walking off the field unaided, he paused briefly and turned to acknowledge the Anfield crowd. Slot highlighted the emotional weight of the moment, noting that Salah’s decision to leave the club at the season’s end may have influenced his actions.

“It’s too early to say, but we all know Mo and how hard it is for him to leave the pitch,” Slot said on Match of the Day. “For Mo to leave the pitch, it shows you something, but we have to wait and see how bad it is.”

The Egyptian international announced his intention to depart Liverpool at the end of the current campaign, leaving him with just over a month to recover before the Reds’ final game against Brentford on 24 May. Slot added that the injury could impact Salah’s availability for the closing fixture, potentially against Manchester United next Sunday.

Salah has been a key figure in Liverpool’s recent success, joining the club in 2017. His career with the Reds includes two Premier League titles, the Champions League, Fifa Club World Cup, Uefa Super Cup, FA Cup, two EFL Cups, and the Community Shield. With 257 goals in 435 appearances, he ranks third in the club’s all-time scoring chart, following Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.

Slot emphasized that while the injury might have crossed Salah’s mind, the team is hopeful he can return for the final games of the season. “My honest answer is yes, the way he came off,” Slot told Sky Sports. “It went through his mind because there are only a few weeks to go, but we are hoping he plays for us again. You have tests to do and then we have to wait for the prognosis.”

Salah’s 16 goals in 18 matches against Manchester United underscore his importance in derby clashes. The Reds will face Chelsea on 9 May and Aston Villa on 17 May before wrapping up the season against Brentford. Mo Salah: Never Give Up is now available.
