Xavi Simons Out for the Season and World Cup Due to Injury

Tottenham secured the transfer of Netherlands attacker Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in August 2025 for a reported £52 million. The 23-year-old has now been sidelined for the remainder of the season and the upcoming World Cup after sustaining a knee injury. The setback came during Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday, when Simons collided with defender Hugo Bueno and collapsed following a second fall in the match.

A Sudden End to a Promising Season

Simons, who had joined the squad with high expectations, expressed his dismay on social media. “They say life can be cruel and today it feels that way,” he wrote. “My season has come to an abrupt end and I’m just trying to process it. Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of it makes sense.” The injury, potentially involving the anterior cruciate ligament, has dashed his hopes of contributing to Tottenham’s fight against relegation.

“All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me … along with the World Cup,” added Simons. “Representing my country this summer … just gone. It’ll take time to find peace with this, but I’ll continue to be the best team-mate I can be. I have no doubt that together we’ll win this fight.”

Tottenham currently sits in the relegation zone, occupying 18th place in the Premier League with four games remaining and two points separating them from safety. The 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, kicks off on 11 June, with the Netherlands facing Japan in Group F on 14 June. Simons’ absence will be felt as the team prepares for this crucial phase.

Looking Ahead with Resilience

In his message, Simons vowed to remain positive. “I’ll walk this path now, guided by faith, with strength, with resilience, with belief, as I count down the days to getting back out there. Be patient with me,” he concluded. Fans and analysts are now focusing on how Tottenham will navigate the remaining fixtures and the World Cup without one of their key players.
