Megan Thee Stallion Taken to Hospital During Moulin Rouge! Performance

During a performance of Moulin Rouge! The Musical in New York on Tuesday night, Megan Thee Stallion was hospitalized unexpectedly, according to her representative. The spokesperson shared that she began experiencing severe illness midway through her act and was swiftly taken to a nearby medical facility for assessment.

“We are currently evaluating her symptoms at the hospital,” the team confirmed to US media, adding that further details will be released as they become available.

The rapper, 31, is portraying Zidler, the show’s flamboyant master of ceremonies, in her Broadway debut. Her hair stylist, Kellon Deryck, posted on X: “Everyone say a prayer for Megan, we are all at the hospital.” This marks the first time she has stepped onto the stage for a theater production, a shift she embraced with enthusiasm before her opening performance on 24 March.

While performing as Zidler, Megan Thee Stallion is known for her chart-topping tracks such as Savage, WAP, and Body. In 2021, she claimed three Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Song, Best New Artist, and Best Rap Performance. The following year, she was recognized for Album of the Year. The role of Zidler has been previously played by Danny Burstein, who won a Tony Award in 2020, and later by Bob the Drag Queen for eight weeks earlier this year.

The BBC has reached out to Megan Thee Stallion’s team for further statements. Her debut in the musical coincides with her growing interest in expanding her artistic repertoire beyond the concert stage, as she shared excitement for the transition on social media.
