Nestle says thieves stole 12 tons of KitKat chocolate bars
Nestle Praises Thieves for ‘Exceptional Taste’ After 12 Tons of KitKat Stolen
A massive theft involving over 12 tons of KitKat chocolate bars has left Nestle both amused and concerned. The Swiss food giant revealed that a delivery truck carrying nearly 413,793 units of its latest product line vanished en route to Poland from a facility in central Italy. The exact location of the disappearance remains undisclosed, with the vehicle and its cargo still missing as of Saturday afternoon.
“We’ve always encouraged people to take a break with KitKat,” a Nestle representative stated, referencing the brand’s iconic slogan. “But it seems the thieves interpreted the message in a more literal sense, taking a break with more than 12 tons of our chocolate.”
The company warned that the stolen bars, known for their wafer-covered chocolate design, could lead to shortages in certain European markets. Additionally, Nestle expressed worry that the missing stock might end up in informal sales channels. However, the firm assured that the unique batch codes on each bar would allow for tracking if the goods resurface.
“If the stolen items are found in unofficial markets, scanners can identify them and send alerts to KitKat, which will then share the evidence,” the spokesperson added.
Nestle also highlighted the growing trend of cargo theft, acknowledging the thieves’ refined taste while stressing the broader threat to businesses. “Though we appreciate their skill, cargo theft is becoming a serious challenge,” the company noted. “With increasingly complex methods being used, we’re sharing our experience to draw attention to this rising issue.”
