French far-right leader romantically linked to Italian princess
French Far-Right Leader in Relationship with Italian Princess
Paris Match, a prominent celebrity publication, claims that Jordan Bardella, a far-right presidential candidate in France, is in a romantic relationship with Princess Maria Carolina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. The magazine’s cover features images of the couple from a recent holiday in Corsica, accompanied by the headline “The Unforeseen Idyll.”
Rumors about their connection first emerged in January, when they were spotted at an event in Paris celebrating the 200th anniversary of Le Figaro. Despite the speculation, Bardella has consistently avoided commenting on his private life, referring to it as “his final domain of freedom.” The latest report from Paris Match implies the relationship has now become official, though Bardella’s future as a presidential candidate hinges on a court decision in July regarding Marine Le Pen’s eligibility.
A Royal Lineage and Cultural Influence
Maria Carolina, also titled Duchess of Calabria and Palermo, is the 22-year-old daughter of Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro. He is one of two figures vying to lead the Bourbon-Two Sicilies royal house, which once governed Sicily and southern Italy. The family lost its throne during Italy’s unification.
“A classical elegance – a couple incredibly atypical,” the magazine notes. “On one side, a politician from the ranks of the people. On the other, a princess from the highest reaches of the nobility.”
The princess, though holding no formal legal status in the Italian Republic, is a distant relative of France’s Sun-King Louis XIV. Her official website highlights her upbringing in Rome, Monte Carlo, and Paris, along with her active role in cultural and humanitarian endeavors. She also engages in creative and charitable projects with her sister, Princess Maria Chiara.
Her father’s decision to remove the Salic law has positioned her as a potential successor to the royal house’s leadership. With proficiency in six languages and a substantial social media presence, Maria Carolina is described as deeply involved in fashion and philanthropy. Meanwhile, Bardella, who hails from a council flat in Saint-Denis, embodies a French tradition of self-made success, rising through political ranks rather than inherited privilege.
The couple reportedly met in Monaco during the May Grand Prix, where Bardella accompanied his father, a racing enthusiast. Paris Match is owned by Bernard Arnault, the billionaire behind the LVMH luxury conglomerate.
