US could ‘finish the job’ in Iran in two or three weeks, Trump says

President Trump has claimed that U.S. military operations in Iran could conclude within “two or three weeks” — regardless of whether a negotiated agreement between the nations is reached. He emphasized that the U.S. has fulfilled its core objective of limiting Iran’s capacity to develop a nuclear weapon, stating that the country is now “finishing the job.”

“We’ve set them back 15-20 years. They have no navy, no military, no air force.”

Iran’s leader, Masoud Pezeshkian, stated that Tehran is prepared to end the conflict if certain conditions are satisfied, as reported by state media. This is not the first time Trump has indicated the war’s potential swift resolution, following the month-long conflict that began on February 28 with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets.

Trump told reporters on Tuesday that the U.S. would “leave” Iran “very soon,” adding that the mission would be completed “within maybe two weeks, maybe a couple of days longer.” He noted that a deal could emerge before this timeframe, but insisted it “doesn’t matter if they come to the table or not.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that Trump plans to address the nation at 21:00 ET on Wednesday to provide an “important update on Iran.” Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the war’s end is near, stating there are “talks going on” and “the potential for direct meeting at some point.” He warned against “fake negotiations” used as delays.

During the conflict, Israeli forces targeted an Iranian factory, which they allege produced chemical weapons. Iran countered by asserting the site was used for medicine. Meanwhile, Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, faced heavy airstrikes overnight, with Israel claiming to have eliminated a Hezbollah commander and another high-ranking figure.

Leavitt also highlighted that the Gulf remains a focal point of attacks, particularly due to the presence of U.S. military bases. Saudi Arabia reported intercepting two drones, while a tanker near Qatar was struck by a missile. Bahrain and Kuwait also experienced incidents, with a fire breaking out at Kuwait’s International Airport following drone strikes.

On Wednesday morning, the Israeli military confirmed detecting a new wave of projectiles launched from Iran toward Israel, underscoring the ongoing intensity of hostilities. As the situation evolves, Trump’s remarks suggest a decisive military outcome is anticipated shortly.
