Dart and Burrage send GB to BJK Cup finals
Great Britain secured their place in the Billie Jean King Cup finals after a 3-0 victory over Australia in the qualifying tie. The team’s top-ranked player, Harriet Dart, partnered with Jodie Burrage for the first time, triumphing in straight sets against Storm Hunter and Ellen Perez with scores of 6-3 and 6-4 on Melbourne’s hard courts.
A decisive doubles win
The doubles rubber was pivotal in the team’s progression, as Dart and Burrage rallied from a 3-1 deficit to take the first set. Their second set was marked by four consecutive breaks, culminating in a crucial ninth-game advantage. Burrage held her serve to clinch the match, highlighting the resilience of the duo.
“That feels amazing. I’m proud of us for the way that we played, the way that we came out and managed to close that out,” said Burrage.
Earlier in the day, Great Britain had already won both singles matches. Mika Stojsavljevic, a 17-year-old making her debut, stunned Talia Gibson, who was ranked over 200 places higher, in straight sets. Dart, meanwhile, bounced back from a set down to defeat Kimberly Birrell, showcasing her adaptability under pressure.
“They’re two great players. They play a lot of doubles and it was our first time playing together. It’s crazy actually because we played pretty well and to be able to make the finals is just kind of surreal,” remarked Dart.
Despite being without four players ranked in the singles top 100—Emma Raducanu, Katie Boulter, Fran Jones, and Sonay Kartal—Great Britain remained confident. The team, which reached the finals for the third consecutive year, proved they could overcome the odds. As 2025 semi-finalists, they now aim to build on their recent success in the eight-team competition in Shenzhen.
Australia, the losers of the tie, will compete in November’s play-offs for a chance to qualify for the finals. Live scores, results, and order of play are available for updates.
