Rahm confident he will play at 2027 Ryder Cup

Rahm Confident of 2027 Ryder Cup Participation

Jon Rahm, the 2023 Masters champion, has not missed the cut in his nine visits to Augusta National. Despite current ineligibility to compete in the upcoming Ryder Cup, the Spanish golfer remains optimistic about his inclusion in Europe’s team for the 2027 event in Ireland. His confidence stems from ongoing negotiations with the DP World Tour, which he is contesting over significant fines—estimated at over £2 million—related to his participation in LIV Golf events conflicting with the European circuit’s schedule.

Masters Schedule and Future Ambitions

This week marks the first major championship of the year, with Rahm set to compete in the Masters. When questioned about his readiness to represent Europe in September 2027, he affirmed,

“Yes.”

The tournament’s tee times for the opening rounds have been released, highlighting Rahm’s focus on securing his place in the European team despite the legal challenges.

Rahm, who was selected as a wildcard by captain Luke Donald in 2023, has already contributed to Europe’s victory in three of his four Ryder Cup appearances. Donald, aiming to become the first European skipper to win three Cups, is eager to reinclude the 31-year-old in his squad. Rahm emphasized his belief in a resolution, stating,

“I didn’t think going to court was beneficial for anyone. I have faith in us and the DP World Tour to reach a fair agreement. We’re working to negotiate, and I’m certain the issue will be settled before the September tee-off.”

Currently, Rahm is uncertain about his ability to play DP World Tour events, but he plans to focus on LIV Golf until August. This period could position him for opportunities in the Irish Open, starting on 9 September, as well as other tournaments like the Spanish Open and French Open. “I intend to continue supporting the DP World Tour,” he said. “I’ve been grateful for the events and the experience they provide.”

Rahm’s quest for a second Masters title begins alongside Ryder Cup teammate Ludvig Aberg and American Chris Gotterup at 18:08 BST on Thursday. While his eligibility for the 2027 event hangs in balance, his determination to resolve the dispute and return to competitive play remains unwavering.
