India News: LPG Tanker Navigates Hormuz Amid Regional Tensions

India’s LPG tanker, Green Sanvi, successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz, marking the seventh such vessel to do so since the Iran conflict disrupted maritime traffic. This development comes as New Delhi works to stabilize fuel imports. Live tracking data from Marine Traffic indicates the ship’s progress toward Mumbai. The Mitsui-owned tanker, carrying 46,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas, is set to berth in the city.

Earthquake Shakes North India

Residents in northern regions, including New Delhi, experienced tremors following a 5.9-magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan on Friday. At least eight fatalities were reported in the region. The seismic event has raised concerns about regional stability, with aftershocks potentially impacting infrastructure.

Global Energy Disruptions

The ongoing Iran war has significantly disrupted energy supply chains, affecting India’s access to critical resources. As a major LPG importer, the country relies heavily on this fuel for domestic cooking. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration has implemented urgent measures to mitigate the crisis while negotiating safe passage for Indian-flagged ships through the strait.

Strategic Rerouting of Supplies

A US-sanctioned tanker, Ping Shun, carrying Iranian crude oil, altered its course mid-journey from India to China. The ship redirected to Dongying, bypassing Gujarat’s Vadinar port, possibly due to financial concerns. This shift highlights the challenges of securing energy imports amid geopolitical tensions.
