Iran war: US says missing crew member from downed jet found
Iran War: US Confirms Missing Crew Member from Downed Jet Recovered
Rescue Operation Concludes Successfully
Following an extensive search operation, US officials announced the recovery of a crew member from an F-15E fighter jet shot down by Iran. US President Donald Trump stated the airman sustained injuries but will “be just fine,” emphasizing the mission’s success. The rescue marked a critical milestone in the ongoing conflict, with the military credited for its swift actions.
“WE WILL NEVER LEAVE AN AMERICAN WARFIGHTER BEHIND!” Trump declared on his Truth Social platform, highlighting the coordinated efforts of the US military. He noted the airman, identified as a colonel, was located in “treacherous mountainous terrain” and retrieved despite being “hunted down” by Iranian forces.
Trump added that the operation involved “dozens of aircraft armed with the most lethal weapons in the world,” underscoring the US’ “overwhelming air dominance.” This followed the earlier retrieval of a second crew member, who was rescued prior to the latest development. Both rescues occurred without any US casualties, according to the administration.
Iranian Drones Target Kuwaiti Infrastructure
Meanwhile, Iranian drones struck government and energy facilities in Kuwait, as reported by local authorities. The military noted on X that “hostile missile and drone threats” prompted air defense responses, with explosions attributed to interceptions. A drone reportedly damaged an oil facility operated by Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, while another caused significant harm to a Finance Ministry building. No injuries were reported in either incident.
“Kuwaiti Air Defenses are currently responding to hostile missile and drone threats,” the military stated, adding that “any explosions heard were the result of air defence interceptions.”
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards countered by claiming a US aircraft was destroyed in southern Isfahan, as per state media Tasnim. This contradicted Trump’s earlier assertion on Wednesday that Iran had been “completely decimated” and its “navy is gone, their air force is in ruins.”
Regional Tensions Escalate
Lebanon entered the conflict on March 2 after Hezbollah, Iran’s key proxy in the region, retaliated against US-Israel strikes on Iran. Israeli forces have since conducted aerial attacks across Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah strongholds in Beirut’s southern suburbs. These strikes were part of a joint operation with the US, aimed at disrupting Iran-backed militant activities.
Trump reiterated his support for the military’s actions, stating that the “US military sent dozens of aircraft” to ensure the safety of the downed airman. The president’s remarks reflected confidence in the operation’s outcome, despite Iran’s continued involvement in the region’s tensions.
