Ukraine: Several Killed as Russia Strikes Bus, Other Targets
Russian forces intensified their assaults across Ukraine, resulting in at least nine casualties on Tuesday, including a child, according to official reports. In a separate incident, Ukrainian drone strikes targeted regions east of Moscow and Russian-occupied territories, killing five individuals, among them a 12-year-old boy. These attacks are part of a broader escalation in long-range drone and missile operations, with infrastructure as a primary focus.
Cross-Border Attacks and Ceasefire Efforts
As the Orthodox Easter approaches, Ukraine has called for a pause in hostilities. The holiday, scheduled for later this week, offers a potential window for peace talks. However, the ongoing conflict shows no signs of slowing, with strikes continuing to target both military and civilian assets.
Nikopol Bus Attack
In the frontline city of Nikopol, located along the Dnipro River—a de facto border in southern Ukraine—Russian drones struck a passenger bus, killing four people. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, stating,
“The Russians continue their deliberate terror against people in Nikopol and other cities and communities near the front.”
The assault devastated a once-thriving area that housed 100,000 residents before Russia’s 2022 full-scale invasion.
Escalating Civilian Casualties
Another drone strike hit a public bus in the Dnipropetrovsk region, injuring five. Officials noted that such attacks on civilian vehicles have become more frequent in recent weeks. In Russian-controlled Kherson, a Ukrainian strike killed a woman in her fifties, as reported by Moscow-backed Governor Vladimir Saldo. Meanwhile, in Zaporizhzhia, a drone attack on a school in Velikaya Znamenka killed a local official while he aided children fleeing the area. Yevgeny Balitsky, the Moscow-backed governor, described the injuries as six, with five children among the victims.
Energy Infrastructure Targeting
The Ukrainian military announced an attack on Russia’s Ust-Luga oil terminal, part of Kyiv’s strategy to disrupt Moscow’s energy sector. This move comes amid concerns that the US-Israeli conflict with Iran could revive Russia’s fuel industry, which has been weakened by years of sanctions. Across the Russian mainland and occupied Ukrainian regions, Ukrainian drones claimed five civilian lives, including a 12-year-old boy and his parents in the Vladimir region east of Moscow.
As the war continues, both sides are leveraging strikes to gain strategic advantages. The combination of drone warfare and conventional attacks highlights the evolving nature of the conflict, with civilian areas increasingly under threat.
