Missiles thrown at police as illegal rave halted

Dorset Police encountered resistance from attendees during their effort to disband an unauthorized rave at a scenic location. The event, which attracted approximately 2,000 individuals and over 100 vehicles, began around 23:45 BST on Saturday. Officers operated throughout the night until Sunday evening, facing a barrage of thrown objects as they enforced the shutdown.

During the operation, law enforcement seized equipment and closed nearby roads to manage the disruption. Ten people were arrested for various violations, including driving under the influence and assaulting emergency personnel. The police force emphasized the challenges posed by the event, stating that officers were subjected to a violent and hostile environment.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Lyne’s Statement

“While addressing the incident, our officers were targeted with missiles and confronted with a violent and hostile response,” said Assistant Chief Constable Steve Lyne of Dorset Police. “Violence within our communities and directed at our staff is not acceptable. These events, though illegal, create considerable disturbance, and we must act to protect public safety. It is unacceptable that violence arises during such efforts.”

The police are currently reviewing evidence from the event to determine if additional offences were committed. This ongoing investigation aims to hold those responsible accountable for the chaos caused by the illegal gathering.
