Airport Seeking Public’s Assistance to Reunite Parrot with Owner
Dublin Airport is reaching out to the public for help in reuniting a parrot with its owner. The bird was recently spotted on the airport grounds during Easter Sunday, prompting officials to take action. Airport police discovered the parrot near Terminal One, where it was perched on a rubbish bin. This incident follows a prior case in 2019 when a parrot attempted to take off from the main runway and was successfully returned to its owner.
Parrot’s Capture and Care
According to a statement from the airport, an officer managed to calm the bird by offering food, leading to a quick bond. The parrot even perched on the officer’s hand and shoulder before being secured in a patrol vehicle. There, it seemed to relax in the van’s warmth as the officers completed their routine. The bird was then transported to the airport police station, where it received fruit, water, and toys. A temporary enclosure made from a dog crate and brush handle was also provided for its comfort.
“The bird has been well cared for overnight,” the statement noted.
Authorities have informed An Garda Síochána (Irish police), a local pet shop, and an adjacent animal sanctuary about the situation. Meanwhile, the airport has been actively posting updates on social media to locate the owner. So far, several inquiries have been received, some mentioning leg ring numbers, but none have confirmed the parrot’s identity yet.
Historical Parrot Encounters
Notably, this isn’t the first time a parrot has appeared at the airport. In 2019, an African grey named Hugo was spotted taxiing for a flight by a firefighter conducting a safety check. Earlier this year, another “unexpected visitor” made headlines—a chatty parrot that clearly wasn’t scheduled for any journey landed at the airport in August 2025.
The airport also humorously referenced a past event involving Republic of Ireland striker Troy Parrott. After his hat-trick against Hungary, officials jokingly considered renaming the facility to Troy Parrott Airport. The social media team has since revived the joke following recent Ireland matches.
Efforts to reunite the parrot with its owner continue. “We look forward to helping this unexpected visitor get safely home,” the airport added in its statement.
