Man jailed for killing abused wife who jumped from bridge
Man Sentenced for Killing Wife in Bridge Incident
In a landmark case, Lee Milne, 39, received an eight-year prison term for the death of his wife, Kimberly Milne, 28, who died after being struck by multiple cars on the A90 motorway in Dundee in July 2023. The prosecution argued that Milne’s actions directly contributed to her fatal decision to jump from the bridge.
Domestic Abuse and Control
The trial revealed a pattern of abuse spanning 18 months before her death. Prosecutors highlighted instances of physical violence, including an attack in early 2022 where Milne choked Kimberly. Prior to her death, she described to police how Lee accessed her phone, discovered messages from other men, and erupted in anger, shouting and swearing at her.
“Lee and I were in his home, and he went through my phone. He saw messages from other men before we were together. He got angry and started to shout and swear at me.”
Other incidents involved Milne pulling Kimberly by her hair and apologizing, claiming he wasn’t “that type of guy.” In late 2022, Kimberly alleged he was cheating, prompting him to hit her on the head, causing her to fall unconscious. The court was also informed that Milne had been convicted of sexually assaulting two boys in 2024 and added to the sex offenders’ register.
Witness Accounts and Evidence
A witness testified that on the night of Kimberly’s death, she observed a man and woman arguing. After shopping, she spotted them again at a Dundee retail park, where the man was seen restraining the woman against a wall. The witness described her as “cowering, scared” and “seeming too frightened” to react.
CCTV footage from the trial showed Kimberly retreating from Milne, who shouted at her while driving toward her. She hid behind a wall and trailed slowly behind him as he led the way. Kimberly’s mother, Lynne Bruce, 54, recounted how Lee arrived at her house the morning after the incident, claiming Kim had “pulled the steering wheel and crashed the car” before jumping to her death.
“I was woken up by Lee at my door. When I answered, he said something along the lines of Kim has gone. He came in the house and said she had gone up to the bridge and he had chased her.”
Det Chf Insp Craig Kelly, who led the investigation, praised the conviction, stating Milne was “a violent bully” who exerted emotional and physical abuse, along with coercive control. He emphasized that Milne never fully accepted responsibility, instead blaming Kimberly’s “vulnerabilities.”
