Notable Roles and Contributions

Best known for his portrayal of Austin Reed in the NBC daytime series Days of Our Lives, Muldoon played the boxer who formed a romantic connection with Carrie Brady, played by Christie Clark, from 1992 to 1995. He made a brief comeback to the show in 2011. In Starship Troopers, he starred as Zander Barcalow, the love interest of the lead character, Casper Van Dien, in Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 blockbuster.

“This is such heartbreaking news. Pat was a rare kind of person—brilliantly talented, endlessly kind, and generous in spirit,” said Alison Sweeney, who co-starred with Muldoon on Days of Our Lives. She reflected on his early support during her career, noting how he “made me feel at ease right away” and brought “unique charm and humour” to every day on set.

“I can’t believe he’s gone. Pat was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known and was like a brother to me,” shared Dina Meyer, his co-star in Starship Troopers. She remembered him as “a light… always making us laugh” and extended her condolences to his loved ones, emphasizing his lasting impact.

Muldoon, born in San Pedro, California, began his acting journey while studying at the University of Southern California. He was also part of the university’s football team, the Trojans, before graduating in 1991. His first major role came as Jeffrey Hunter in the high school sitcom Saved By the Bell, though it was his work on Days of Our Lives that solidified his reputation in the industry.

Behind-the-Scenes Work and Upcoming Projects

Throughout his career, Muldoon balanced on-screen roles with producing ventures. He worked on films such as The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Arkansas and Marlowe, and was set to produce the upcoming feature Kockroach, starring Chris Hemsworth. His final acting role will appear in the action-crime thriller Dirty Hands, co-starring Denise Richards, another former Starship Troopers castmate.

Muldoon is survived by his partner, Miriam Rothbart; his parents, Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr.; his sister and brother-in-law, Shana and Ahmet Zappa; his niece, Halo; and his nephew, Arrow Zappa.
