Glasgow Influencer Jailed for Smuggling £150,000 of Cannabis
A young Scottish social media influencer received a 16-month sentence following her arrest for attempting to smuggle 17kg of cannabis through Edinburgh Airport. Ellie Crampsie, who operates under the name ‘Ellie Crampsie’ in Glasgow’s nightlife and events scene, admitted to transporting the Class B drug in her suitcase as she returned from a holiday in Thailand.
The 23-year-old from Broomhouse claimed she was compelled by her ex-boyfriend to conceal the narcotics. Her Instagram account boasts around 5,500 followers, while her TikTok profile has approximately 6,000 subscribers. Crampsie’s lawyer, Michael Poggi, highlighted her diminished involvement in the drug trafficking operation, citing external pressures that influenced her actions.
“You knew your former partner had been involved in drugs and he asked you to check in his luggage,” stated Sheriff Graeme Watson. “Your role was one of carrying the cannabis in your luggage, and I accept there was a power imbalance in the relationship.”
Border control officers intercepted Crampsie after she arrived on an Air France flight from Thailand, transiting through Paris. The suitcase, which she claimed belonged to her ex, also included female clothing. The cannabis was valued at between £115,000 and £151,000. Despite her lesser degree of culpability, the sheriff deemed her choice “reckless” and justified the prison term.
