Woman released on bail after fatal house fire

Two children lost in Wolverhampton blaze

Emergency responders arrived at the Mason Street fire shortly after 8:30 PM BST on Friday. Firefighters rushed into the burning Mason Street home, saving the children, though two boys, one and three years old, perished before medical help arrived. A woman in her 30s was detained by police on Saturday on suspicion of causing or allowing the deaths. Prior to the arrival of emergency services, two additional children and a woman had exited the premises. Ambulance personnel assessed their conditions, confirming they required no hospital care.

The woman, who is now on police bail, is under investigation for the incident. Det Ch Insp Kylie Westlake described the tragedy as a “devastating event” and expressed the ongoing support for the families affected. “Our thoughts remain very much with those who loved the children who have been lost,” she said. “We understand the shock and distress this awful incident will have caused to many people and we are working at pace to ascertain exactly what has happened.”

“While we would ask people not to speculate about this or the wider incident, we would ask that anyone who can help with our enquiries, and who is yet to speak with us, to get in contact,” Det Ch Insp Kylie Westlake added.
