Chelsea midfielder Caicedo agrees new contract
Chelsea Midfielder Moises Caicedo Commits to Extended Stay
Chelsea’s star midfielder, Moises Caicedo, has finalized a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2033. The 24-year-old Ecuadorian international, who joined from Brighton in 2023 for a British-record £100m, secured improved terms after a competitive bidding process with Liverpool. His previous eight-year deal was valued at £115m, though this figure has been overtaken by Liverpool’s £125m acquisition of striker Alexander Isak.
Caicedo’s latest agreement is part of a broader strategy to retain top talent, following the example set by captain Reece James, who signed first. The club is expected to announce at least one more contract renewal before the season concludes. Similar performance-linked incentives were also offered to Cole Palmer earlier in the campaign, reflecting Chelsea’s focus on rewarding standout players based on achieving specific goals such as Champions League qualification.
During the international break, Caicedo emphasized his commitment to the club, stating:
“I’m focused on my club right now. I want to be a legend.”
His consistency has been notable, with Caicedo starting all Premier League matches last season under former manager Enzo Maresca and maintaining a key role this term, appearing in 42 games and scoring five goals from a defensive midfield role.
Meanwhile, other players like Enzo Fernandez and Levi Colwill have been in talks about potential new deals. However, Fernandez faces a setback after serving a two-game suspension for comments expressing a desire to live in Madrid. His agent, Javier Pastore, remarked in an interview with the Athletic:
“[He] deserves much more than he is currently earning.”
This comes amid ongoing speculation about his future with Real Madrid.
Chelsea currently sits sixth in the Premier League and aims to secure Champions League qualification through a fifth-place finish. The team’s next fixture is a home clash against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, where they will look to strengthen their position in the race for European football.
