Howe ‘looks forward’ to talks with Newcastle owners
Saturday’s clash at the Emirates Stadium pits Newcastle United against Arsenal, marking a pivotal moment in the Premier League campaign. Ahead of the match, head coach Eddie Howe revealed plans to meet with the club’s owners next week to share his viewpoint on the team’s direction. The gathering, set to take place at Matfen Hall in Northumberland, has been arranged well in advance of Newcastle’s recent struggles, which have seen them fall to 14th in the league table.
Howe emphasized the importance of these meetings, stating they are a routine part of the club’s operations. “It’s something that happens regularly, so it’s nothing unusual,” he remarked. The coach expressed his eagerness to communicate directly with the ownership, aiming to convey his vision for the squad. “I always enjoy the opportunity to speak with the owners and present my perspective,” he added, highlighting the ongoing collaboration between the coaching staff and management.
“It’s about attitude, commitment to the team,” Howe said. “I think the players would expect that, I think they understand the demands and the role they’re in. It’s a high-demand, high-pressure role where you’re constantly judged and people are making assessments over your future. There’s a responsibility in every moment to try to be at your best. That responsibility falls on me as well to make sure I’m delivering the best I can for the players and staff to create an environment we can win in. It goes with the territory and I think the players understand it.”
Despite growing questions about his role from external observers, Howe remains deeply involved in shaping the team’s future. His focus includes refining pre-season strategies and evaluating transfer targets, particularly as several key players face uncertainty. Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento, and Sandro Tonali are among those under consideration for long-term contracts or potential departures.
The summer transfer window is expected to be hectic for Newcastle, with speculation mounting over the stability of their squad. Following a stretch of eight consecutive losses in 11 matches, Howe hinted at the possibility of more significant shifts in the coming weeks. “There might be bigger changes in the summer than was maybe previously thought,” he noted, underscoring the need for decisive action amid challenging circumstances.
