Channel 4 scraps Bake Off episode starring Scott Mills

Channel 4 Cancels Bake Off Episode Featuring Scott Mills

Controversy Surrounds DJ’s Removal From Broadcasting and Events

Channel 4 has announced that a celebrity episode of *The Great British Bake Off* featuring Scott Mills will not be aired. The decision follows Mills’ termination by the BBC in March over allegations of historical sexual misconduct. The incident involves a teenage boy under 16, with claims dating back to 1997–2000. Although a police inquiry in 2016 was closed in 2019 due to insufficient evidence, the BBC recently acted after learning the alleged victim was under 16.

Mills had already recorded the episode for *Stand Up To Cancer*, but Channel 4 cited “careful consideration of the circumstances” as the reason for its cancellation. The broadcaster stated that airing the episode “would not be appropriate at this time” given the gravity of the accusations. An alternative episode featuring other celebrities will replace it in the schedule.

“An allegation was made against me in 2016 of a historic sexual offence which was the subject of a police investigation in which I fully cooperated and responded to in 2018,” Mills said. “As the police have stated, a file of evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, which determined that the evidential threshold had not been met to bring charges.”

Alongside the Bake Off decision, Mills has been removed from Boyzone’s upcoming June concerts at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium. Originally scheduled as the “special guest DJ” for the reunion gigs, his name is no longer listed on the bill. It remains unclear whether he voluntarily withdrew or was asked to leave.

Additionally, Mills has stepped down as an ambassador for the MS Society UK. The charity highlighted his 10-year commitment, stating they would “review the situation” while prioritizing the MS community. He also parted ways with Neuroblastoma UK, having served as a patron since 2021.

“Scott Mills has been a valued MS Society Ambassador for over 10 years. In light of the current news, Scott is stepping back from this role while we review the situation,” the MS Society UK shared. “We take concerns of this nature and the trust placed in us as a charity extremely seriously.”

Mills had been set to appear with Rag’n’Bone Man, Edith Bowman, and Aston Merrygold in a Bake Off episode. His sacking by the BBC last month marked a significant shift in his public profile. Despite cooperating with police and avoiding further commentary, the controversy has led to his absence from multiple high-profile events and roles.
