Another attempted arson attack on synagogue reported
North-West London incident sparks heightened security measures
A new fire incident targeting a synagogue in north-west London has emerged, escalating concerns over recent threats against Jewish institutions. The Community Security Trust (CST), which safeguards Jewish communities, confirmed the attack at Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow occurred during the night. While no one was harmed and the building’s structure remained intact, a minor internal room suffered smoke damage, according to a CST representative.
Authorities are examining multiple arson cases linked to Jewish properties in the region over the last month. These include an assault on a former charity building in Hendon, which is under investigation as a possible antisemitic hate crime. Similar incidents have targeted a Persian language media outlet and a synagogue in Finchley, with ambulances from a Jewish charity in Golders Green also set ablaze.
“We are aware of another attempted arson, this time at a synagogue in north London, following similar attacks targeting the Jewish community in Finchley, Golders Green and Hendon,” said a CST spokesperson. “We commend the Met Police and London Fire Brigade for their swift response and ongoing efforts to shield the community during this critical period. We are actively supporting the affected site and collaborating closely with investigators to determine the culprits.”
On Saturday evening, the Metropolitan Police announced expanded patrols in the area, deploying additional officers, stop-and-search capabilities, and armed counter-terrorism units. A black SUV was inspected near the synagogue on Sunday morning, with police establishing a large cordon and utilizing forensic tools and fire investigation dogs at the scene. Several police vehicles, including marked and unmarked units, were stationed outside the place of worship.
