Police close park after drone video sparks investigation
London’s Kensington Gardens has been closed to the public as officers examine discarded items following the circulation of a video online. The footage, shared by an unidentified group, showed drones carrying hazardous materials aimed at the nearby Embassy of Israel. However, the Metropolitan Police confirmed the embassy remained unharmed and is investigating the video’s origin and credibility.
The park’s closure spans Friday as authorities determine if the items are connected to the alleged drone attack. A Met Police team specializing in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats has been stationed near the bandstand. Additional support includes a fire investigation unit and the London Ambulance Service’s hazardous area response team.
The force acknowledged that the incident might affect local residents and the broader public, but stated there is no heightened safety threat.
Residents and visitors are advised to avoid the area until further notice. BBC Radio London and other platforms offer updates on the situation. For story ideas, contact hello.bbclondon@bbc.co.uk.
