Man Arrested Over Attacks on Jewish Community in London

Authorities are examining a wave of assaults targeting London’s Jewish community, resulting in the detention of an individual. The 37-year-old was apprehended on Sunday at a residence close to Barnstaple, Devon, and is currently being questioned at a London police station. This arrest marks part of a broader counter-terrorism inquiry into multiple incidents affecting the Jewish population, including attacks on synagogues and ambulances.

Since the March 23 attack on Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green, the Metropolitan Police have made 26 arrests in connection with the series of targeted incidents. Other events include a flaming container hurled at a Persian-language media outlet and the identification of jars containing a non-hazardous substance in Kensington Gardens. To date, eight individuals have been charged with arson-related offenses, while one has been found guilty of the crime.

Groups Claim Responsibility

A suspected Islamist organization with ties to Iran, Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia, has asserted responsibility for the ambulance attack, as well as other incidents across the UK and Europe. The group’s involvement highlights ongoing concerns about state-backed actors engaging in acts of violence.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer raised alarms about the use of proxies—groups employed by nations to execute criminal activities—by “a number of countries.” His remarks were made during a visit to Kenton United Synagogue, which was struck by a petrol bomb earlier this month.
