UK petrol and diesel prices fall after weeks of rises

For the first time since the US-Israel conflict with Iran, UK petrol and diesel prices have dipped slightly, according to the RAC. This decline follows a prolonged period of price increases, which were intensified by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz—a vital oil and gas shipping channel—leading to a sharp rise in wholesale costs.

The motoring organization observed that pump prices began to decrease on Thursday and continued the trend into Friday. The reduction, however, has been minimal, with diesel prices falling by 0.6p and petrol prices dropping by 0.3p over the last two days.

Simon Williams, head of policy at the RAC, stated, ‘We’re hopeful for additional price drops of several pence per litre in the coming days. After a period of record-breaking increases, drivers will appreciate the shift in pricing.’

Currently, diesel is priced at just under 191p per litre, and petrol is slightly below 158p per litre. Yet, diesel remains £2
