Watch: Reporter Told to Fake Domestic Abuse Claim to Remain in the UK
A BBC investigation revealed that legal advisors are advising some individuals to fabricate abuse claims, enabling migrants to falsely assert domestic abuse victim status to secure residency in the UK. One such advisor, Eli Ciswaka, allegedly arranged for a BBC reporter to create a fabricated domestic abuse narrative, offering £900 to generate a story for the Home Office. Ciswaka declined to comment in writing but disputed the allegations during a phone conversation, asserting that the undercover reporter was not a genuine abuse victim.
“The misuse of domestic abuse rules is unacceptable, and those lawyers who facilitate this fraud will face legal consequences,” stated Jess Phillips, the Home Office’s safeguarding minister.
